The sky is falling

I rode the Fox Lake Loop today. I haven’t been doing much riding lately, so it was extra special to get out on the bike today. All was going well until a stick fell out of a tree and hit me right on top of the head. I suppose there’s another good reason for wearing a helmet.

Today’s route:

Lunchtime Ride

The weather’s been beautiful lately, and after yesterday’s 5-mile ride with my 5-year-old son, I was craving some more time on the bike. I brought my bike to work and rode ~7.7 miles in around 27 minutes. I was able to leave my office, do the ride, get a shower, and get back to my office in around 58 minutes. I rode my Yukon with the Serfas Drifter 1.5″ tires. I think tomorrow I may try the ride with my Forte VersaTrac 2.0″ tires to see if there is much of a difference in speed and effort. The Drifters are great tires, but I’m looking to get on the trails soon, and the inverted tread may not work so hot on the loose stuff.

Here’s the route:

Today’s Ride to Work

I rode the mountain bike to work today. I put the knobbies back on a few days ago, with the expectation of eventually hitting the trails soon. The knobbies were pretty slow, but I managed to get to cover the 6 miles to work in just under 30 minutes. On the way, I goofed around with my Flip video camera. The video below is from today’s ride.

Chris, Greg, and I went riding after work. We me up at Peden Stadium and rode the HockHocking Adena Bike Path all the way to Robin’s Crossing in Nelsonville and back. We averaged over 17 mph for the 29 mile ride. I haven’t been riding much this summer, so it was great to get a really good ride in. Video recorded with my Flip Mino and pieced together with FlipShare.

A Practical Cyclist’s Winter Cycle Clothing Guidelines

While it may be a bit early to be thinking about winter, we’ve recently had some temperatures in the low forties in the mornings. I’m planning on trying to keep cycling through the winter (mostly because I haven’t done much riding this summer). In preparation for winter riding, it helps to have the right clothes for the conditions. The Practical Cyclist has an awesome table of how to dress for the elements when cycling.
