Major Mileage Milestone Today
603 miles after my 10.5 mile lunchtime ride today. Thus far my longest ride is 37 miles, and my average ride is 14 miles. I’ve ridden 43 rides since January. My total mileage for last year was 496 miles, so I think I’m on my way to getting close to 1,000 miles for the year. Hopefully I’ll be able to crank out some miles this weekend.

The ultimate long distance bike
Bicycle Quarterly has a great article on what makes a good randonneuring bike (pdf). What you’ll find there is not a description of a race bike, but a bike that is good for long days in the saddle. I’ve recently subscribed to Bicycle Quarterly and received the first issue last week. The publication is a lot different that other bike mags, but thus far I’m really enjoying the read. It’s got practical articles about bicycle weight and tire width. Lance Armstrong wouldn’t be riding the bikes in the pages of BQ, but then again, I’m not Lance.

It’s been a while
Yes, this was yet another one of those dead blogs, but I’m attempting to bring it back. However, maybe the reason I haven’t been blogging is because I’ve been too busy losing weight. With going to the gym, eating right, and riding my bike, I am now down to 199.8 pounds. I achieved my goal of getting to 200 pounds by my birthday. It wasn’t easy, as it took me 6.5 months to lose 22 pounds, but I know I did it right and I’m pretty sure I can keep the weight off.
As far as future goals go, I’d like to lose another 10 pounds by the end of 2008. I think it’s doable, but for the time being I’ve been stalled around 200 for quite some time. I imagine I need to add in more weights pretty soon, but I’ve been having too much fun riding my bike. To date I have ridden 592 miles, mostly on the road. My legs are in great shape, and I’d like to find a way to get 1,000 total miles in before the close of 2008. With two kids and another one due in October, this might be a challenge. But whatever my total mileage winds up being for the year, I’m sure to make the most of every mile.
